What Are Biostimulators and How Do They Work?

In the ever-evolving landscape of aesthetic medicine, biostimulatory injectables have emerged as a fascinating and promising avenue for achieving rejuvenated, youthful skin. Unlike traditional dermal fillers that primarily address volume loss, these injectables work as catalysts, stimulating the body’s natural collagen production and offering a multi-faceted approach to skin revitalization.

Why We Need Biostimulator Injectables?

Through the ageing process our collagen supply decreases, leading to skin sagging and wrinkles. This treatment stimulates collagen production, elastin, and hyaluronic acid at a deep level to achieve long lasting results.

How Does Collagen Stimulation Benefit the Skin?

A collagen biostimulator helps to treat the signs of aging by activating your body’s ability to produce collagen. This helps to restore the skin’s inner structure and replace lost volume in the specified area, which gives your skin a firmer and more youthful look.

Types of Collagen Biostimulators

The two most popular dermal fillers, GOURI, Radiesse, each have the ability to treat typical signs of facial aging, such as lines, sagging skin, and shrinkage in the skin of the face. Typically we recommend 3x biostimulation for the first year at 1 month apart, thereafter do we access for those above 45 and below 45 how many times biostimulators and how many times Profhilo a year.

Radiesse contains calcium hydroxylapatite, a mineral found naturally in our bones and teeth. Initially utilised as a dermal filler, when hyperdiluted, it transforms into a collagen biostimulator.

This treatment has dual capabilities to tackle:

  • Facial volume loss
  • Lines and wrinkles (e.g. nasolabial folds, marionette lines, frown lines)

GOURI is formulated using liquid polycaprolactone (PCL), and is a newer addition among the collagen biostimulator available in Singapore.

It is designed to address the following concerns:

  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Sagging face and jowls
  • Loss of collagen, elasticity and firmness
Are Biostimulators an Alternative Treatment to Dermal Fillers?

Our biostimulators and dermal fillers are both used to combat signs of aging whilst giving you a natural look, though there are a couple of minor differences between the two treatments. Collagen biostimulator injections work to improve the firmness, structure, and tone of your skin through stimulating collagen production in the specified area, while dermal fillers use hyaluronic acid to treat wrinkles, plump lips and more. Both biostimulators and dermal fillers can be used together in some instances, but it is best to discuss this during an appointment with one of our cosmetic injectors.

What Age Should I Start Biostimulator Injections?

The optimal age to begin addressing collagen loss is typically in the early 30s, as collagen depletion begins around the early 20s at a rate of approximately 1-1.5% per year. By starting earlier, you can potentially reduce the number of injectable sessions required.
